Mamas, can I be honest with you?
When I first became a mother to my twin boys, I thought I was doing everything right. I wanted them clean, fresh, soft and smelling lovely. Like many new mums, I listened to advice from family, friends, other mothers… and sometimes I simply did what I thought was best.
But motherhood has taught me something: sometimes the things we do with the best intentions aren’t necessarily what our little ones’ skin needs.
Here are a few mistakes I wish someone had gently told me about earlier:
1. Using Too Many Products
Baby skin doesn’t need a shelf full of products. Sometimes, less really is more.
2. Bathing with Very Hot Water
It can feel comforting, especially when the weather is cooler, but hot water can strip away the skin’s natural oils and leave delicate skin feeling dry.
3. Waiting Until the Skin Looks Dry Before Moisturizing
I learned that caring for the skin barrier is about being consistent — not only reacting when we see dryness.
4. Choosing Products Because They Smell Beautiful
As mothers, we love that fresh baby smell. But fragrance isn’t always what delicate baby skin needs.
I became much more conscious about what I was putting on my boys’ skin.
And Perhaps the Biggest Mistake of All?
Thinking that being a good mum means getting everything right.
It doesn’t!
We learn. We adjust. We listen to our little ones. And we do our best, one day at a time.
That is one of the reasons I created Nkoala Baby Love by Nature — from my own journey as a mother of twin boys, and from wanting to create gentle, intentional care for delicate melanin-rich skin.
Mumma, You’re Not Alone
So, mumma, if you’ve made some of these mistakes too… you’re not alone.
This is a space where we learn together, share honestly and support one another — because motherhood was never meant to be done alone.
With love,
Nkoala Baby Love by Nature
